Artists thrive in a community. During college, the energy of collaboration, critique, and shared creative momentum fuels growth. But after graduation, that built-in network often fades, leaving many artists feeling disconnected and unsure of what comes next.
Normal Roots was created to bridge that gap. This platform is designed for artists connected to Illinois State University’s College of Fine Arts to continue sharing their work, finding opportunities, and staying connected long after leaving campus. It’s a space for creative momentum to continue—without the limitations of geography or life changes pulling people apart.
What Makes Normal Roots Different?
While ISU offers alumni networks and resources, Normal Roots is built specifically for artists. This isn’t about career fairs or broad alumni outreach—it’s about fostering an ongoing creative exchange. The goal is to highlight the work being made now, spark collaborations, and provide a space where artists can support each other in real-time.
What’s Next?
Normal Roots is just getting started, and there’s plenty of room to shape what it becomes. One of the first initiatives is the Normal Roots Artist Interview series, featuring conversations with artists about their work, process, and experiences post-ISU. Those interested can schedule an interview here.
The conversation continues on Instagram—follow @normalroots to stay connected and see what ISU artists are creating.
See you out there!
